Showing Not Telling is an important writing strategy that is used in writing Narratives and stories. The purpose of the strategy is to build up a picture in the reader's head about what is happening in the story. It helps to build atmosphere and mood of the story which makes it more interesting to read.An example is in the picture below:
Tips to remember:
- What is the character feeling? Describe the sensations and thoughts that are having an impact on them at that time.
- Where is it? Use words to show what the environment looks like.
